Hola! Mi nombre es Marlon. cursé estudios escolares en Chiriqui. Durante esos años, viví en la finca de mis padres, un entorno que despertó en mí un profundo interés por la naturaleza y el campo.Al culminar la secundaria, tuve la oportunidad de obtener una beca para estudiar inglés en Escocia, Reino Unido, durante cuatro meses. Esa experiencia internacional no solo fortaleció mis habilidades lingüísticas, sino que también amplió mi visión del mundo y mi deseo de seguir preparándome académicamente.Al regresar a Panamá, fui beneficiado con una nueva beca para realizar mis estudios universitarios en la Universidad de Arkansas, en Estados Unidos, donde me gradué con el título de Licenciado en Ciencias Ambientales (Environmental Science).

En mis primeros años en la universidad, tuve la oportunidad de empezar a ganar experiencia en el área agrícola al trabajar como técnico de laboratorio en el departamento de soya de la Universidad de Arkansas. En pocas palabras, mi trabajo consistía en extraer el polen de una flor masculina y colocarlo en la flor femenina, para luego verificar si las plantas habían sido polinizadas exitosamente.

Después de mi puesto como técnico de laboratorio agrícola, durante el verano de 2023 fui contratado por el Departamento de Energía y Medio Ambiente de Arkansas. Ocupé el cargo de pasante de servicio público, encargado de supervisar el Programa de Fondo Fiduciario de Post-Cierre (PCTF, por sus siglas en inglés) para los vertederos.Este programa estatal requiere que los vertederos paguen una cuota fija cada cierto tiempo mientras se encuentran en operación. Dichos fondos se utilizan posteriormente cuando el vertedero deja de recibir desechos y entra en su periodo de post-cierre, el cual dura aproximadamente 40 años.Durante ese tiempo, los propietarios del sitio son responsables de atender cualquier problema ambiental que pueda presentarse. Sin embargo, si los dueños no cuentan con los recursos económicos necesarios para resolverlo, el programa PCTF libera fondos para ayudar a cubrir esos gastos y garantizar la protección ambiental del área.

Al culminar mi carrera en Ciencias Ambientales con énfasis en Suelo y Agua, tuve la oportunidad de trabajar como técnico ambiental para la empresa Blackstone Environmental, ubicada en Overland Park, Kansas. Durante esa experiencia adquirí conocimientos en la toma de muestras de pozos de monitoreo, manejo de datos, elaboración de informes, atención al cliente y otras habilidades relacionadas con el área ambiental.

Después de finalizar mi tiempo con Blackstone Environmental, regresé a Panamá con el objetivo de establecerme y conseguir empleo en mi país. Actualmente trabajo en una pequeña granja sostenible de pollos, donde producimos y vendemos los productos a familiares y amigos. Nuestra meta es seguir creciendo y convertirlo en un pequeño negocio familiar.Además, me desempeño como traductor certificado de español-inglés-español en Traducciones Olmos y Juridico & Criminalístico Legal Group, ubicado en David, Chiriquí.
Sigo siendo una persona joven, con muchas ganas de aprender y abierta a adquirir nuevos conocimientos y experiencias.

Hi! My name is Marlon. I was born and raised in the province of Chiriquí, Panama, where I also completed my schooling. During those years, I lived on my parents’ farm, an environment that sparked my deep interest in nature and agriculture.After finishing high school, I received a scholarship to study English in Scotland, United Kingdom, for four months. That international experience not only strengthened my language skills but also broadened my worldview and motivated me to continue pursuing academic opportunities.Upon returning to Panama, I was awarded another scholarship to pursue a degree in Environmental Science at the University of Arkansas, in the United States.During my first years at the university, I had the opportunity to gain agricultural experience by working as an Agriculture Lab Technician in the department’s soybean program. In short, my work involved extracting pollen from a male flower and transferring it to the female flower, later verifying whether the plants had been successfully pollinated.After my position as an agricultural lab technician, during the summer of 2023, I was hired by the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment as a Public Service Intern. In that role, I oversaw the Post-Closure Trust Fund (PCTF) program for landfills. This state program requires landfill operators to pay a fixed fee at regular intervals while in operation. Those funds are later used once the landfill ceases to receive waste and enters its post-closure period, which lasts approximately 40 years. During that time, landfill owners are responsible for addressing any environmental issues that may arise. However, if the owners lack the financial resources to resolve a problem, the PCTF provides funding assistance to ensure environmental protection.Upon completing my Environmental Soil and Water Science degree, I had the opportunity to work as an Environmental Technician for Blackstone Environmental in Overland Park, Kansas. There, I gained valuable experience in sampling monitoring wells, performing data entry, preparing reports, providing customer service, and developing other technical and professional skills.After concluding my time with Blackstone, I returned to Panama to establish myself and begin working in my home country. I am currently involved in a small sustainable chicken farm, where we produce and sell our products to family and friends, with the goal of building a small business.In addition, I work as a certified Spanish–English–Spanish translator at Traducciones Olmos and Juridico & Criminalistico Legal Group in David, Chiriquí, Panama. I am still young, motivated, and always open to learning from new experiences and others.
